Hundreds of photos help reveal fascinating history of recreational vehicles

Today, hundreds of thousands of Americans travel and camp in recreational vehicles, from tiny popup trailers to luxurious diesel-powered "motor mansions" costing a half-million dollars and more.

RVs and Campers, 1900-2000, An Illustrated History is the first and only book to give an entertaining look at the history and evolution of this popular lifestyle and hobby. Hundreds of nostalgic photographs show a wide variety of campers and RVs throughout the entire 20th century. See early auto tent-camping, converted buses, fold-out trailers, homemade campers, foreign exploration expeditions and even traveling chapels with living quarters for pastors!

The author does a superb job of tracing the progress of the RV industry, beginning at the beginning when "auto camping" got its modest start. The earliest RVs are often so odd looking that you may laugh. Others appear to have been designed for Flash Gordon when he wasn't rocketing through outer space.

Anyone who has ever enjoyed RVs will be thrilled by this retrospective look at these vehicles and their predecessors throughout the 20th century. Put it on your coffee table and watch your friends expressions as they page through with fascination.

The book opens with a look at horse-drawn campers of 1901 and then moves forward, concluding with a look at our modern day wonders of today.
